Top Picks for Maine Coons
Litter Boxes
Are you searching for the purrfect litter box and unsure what to use for your big cat? Maine Coons are BIG cats and most supplies, toys, and accessories are made for the average sized (and much smaller) house cat. Maine Coons as kittens or young adults will fit inside of a regular sized litter box without a problem. But a full grown Maine Coon will have difficulty going potty inside of a small area which oftentimes means they pee or poop just outside of their litter box. The following litter boxes are based off of reviews from Chewy.com, a company we have used and trust for our petcare products. Top 5 Litter boxes for Maine Coons 1. Frisco High Sided Cat Litter Box, Extra Large 24-in We have 7 cats, which means a lot of litter boxes and a lot of litter (which also means a lot of scooping)! Our Maine Coons, especially our large males, will not fit inside of the average sized litter box. If they did their butts would hang over the edge and I prefer to keep their potty IN the box! The 24 in Extra Large litter box works great for our big boys and is large enough to accommodate their long bodies. 2. Catit Jumbo Hooded Cat Pan Although I have not tried out a hooded cat litter box in my home, most cat owners swear by them. I scoop our litter boxes daily, and the thought of having to remove the cover of the box grosses me out. My personal preference is to use an open litter box, but other owners enjoy these because they keep the odor inside the box. Some cats also prefer the extra privacy given by the covered top. The size of these boxes is also scadequate for a large cat. 3. Frisco Deluxe Hooded Cat Litter Box with Scoop, Extra Large 25-in Again, hooded litter boxes are not my personal favorite, but a lot of cat owners prefer them. This is another great option for big cats if you prefer a hooded litter box. 4. Litter Robot 3 Connect If I could afford these, I'd buy 8 of them! I personally have never used them, but the thought of not having to scoop poop again seems like a dream come true! not only would it help keep the smell down, but I am paranoid about me kitties spreading diseases through their poo. When my Beatrix passed away I learned a lot about disease prevention and the importance of keeping poop out of the litter box. The Litter Robot sifts the litter box when your kitty exits, separating the waste from the litter and deposits the clumps into a waste drawer for easy disposal. You can even download an app to your phone that will alert you when the litter box needs to be cleaned and monitor your cat's bathroom behavior! It works great in multiple cat households, the only drawback I can see is that it is expensive. 5. Large Cement Mixing Tub If you're looking for a large, cheap place for your giant kitty to use, Hope Depot sells cement mixing tubs that would great for a litter pan! They are 36x24x8 and are absolutely perfect if you have a GIANT Maine Coon! |
